Chondroitin Sulphate is a glycosaminoglycan (GAG) composed of repeating units of galactosamine (the stereoisomer of glucosamine). Like glucosamine, it is a substance responsible in the chain of events that help repair and restore cartilaginous tissue.
All glucosamine products available to consumers contain a mixture of D-Glucosamine and L-Glucosamine and are manufactured from specially processed chitin obtained from shrimp, lobster and crab shells.
However, during processing both D-Glucosamine and L-Glucosamine are formed, yet the body only uses D-Glucosamine for the manufacture of the building blocks of cartilage as well as for the formation of ligaments.
