Krill is a small crustacean-like shrimp that lives mainly in the Antarctic and North Pacific Oceans, which are cold sea areas around the world. It contains DHA, EPA and astaxanthin. Krill oil is known as the best source of essential fatty acids due to its high bioavailability and ORAC levels. Krill oil contains significantly less heavy metals such as mercury because they are at the bottom of the food chain.

The EPA and DHA in krill oil are linked together in a similar way to the oils in the body's fat cells. Therefore, the fatty acids in krill oil are much better absorbed than the fatty acids in fish.

Compared to fish oil, the recommended amount of krill oil is only half as much as it is said to absorb the same amount of omega-3.
